Art for Charity is delighted to welcome Janet (Jan) Nelson to the Art for Charity Gallery in early March 2013.
Born in Glasgow in 1956 she was soon to move to the east coast where she grew up. Having painted for over 25 years Jan has developed a loyal following in Britain and overseas. Although she studied at the Leith School of Art in Edinburgh for a few years Jan Nelson is predominantly self-taught. After a period of painting part-time and working in commerce she is now enjoying painting full- time from her studio which enjoys stunning views over the Kyles of Bute.
Being a keen sailor Jan joins in with as many sea activities at sea as possible! Jan is very experienced on the water and is due to be racing in a Hawk-20 Dayboat this year in Scotland and in June will be part of the crew on a Hunter Formula One at the National Championships.
The UK's dramatic and ever changing coastline has influenced Jan's painting greatly. Her vibrant sailing paintings capture the immense movements of the sea and of the boats racing. The energy poured into these pieces is highly engaging. It's hard to draw your eyes away from Nelson's exclusive and dramatic works.
During the painting process Nelson will lay on acrylics thickly using both brush and palette knife. Jan's recognisable impasto techniques add great depth, strength and colour contrast to her works, reflecting her subject matter.
Jan's work is displayed within a few select galleries across Britain and many of her pieces can now be found in numerous private collections worldwide.
Art for Charity is proud to offer a range of Jan Nelson works in their stunning original form.
