Joe Hargan
Art for Charity were proud to welcome the esteemed contemporary artist Joe Hargan to our Gallery in 2012.
Joe Hargan was born in Glasgow in 1952 and went on to study at the city’s world renowned art school, The Glasgow School of Art in 1970, graduating in 1974.
Post graduation Joe began his career by displaying his art in Scotland. The remainder of the UK followed and his works are now displayed all across the world in gallery exhibitions such as the Royal Academy in London. There are also a number of corporate and private collections including the BBC, Bloomberg and the Kuwait Royal Family.
Joe’s work is instantly recognisable and has proven to be immensely collectable. His unique style is often very witty. This wit is especially prevalent in works featuring the renowned character “Sniffy” which are now collected by discerning art enthusiasts across the world.
Joe began gaining recognition and winning awards for his artwork during his time at The Glasgow School of Art and has continued to do so throughout his illustrious career. In the past decade or so he has won The Contemporary Fine art award, The Paisley Art Institute, The Maude Gemmell Hutchison Prize and the Royal Scottish Academy of Art William Bowie Award.
Furthermore Joe Hargan is an elected member of the Glasgow Art Club and The Paisley Art Institute. He was later elected council member and then nominated and voted in as Chairman and President of the famous Art Institute. Joe held this post for eleven years.
